胃裏有蝴蝶?

講起情人節,甜蜜的約會少不了玫瑰、朱古力、燭光晚餐,大家有否感覺胃裏的蝴蝶翩翩起舞?Butterflies in stomach,其實並不是胃裏真的有蝴蝶。而是形容人因緊張、忐忑不安而感到胃部不適,往往伴隨心跳加速、口乾舌燥、手抖出汗,常意指人陷入愛情時的悸動。這背後的科學原理就是我們曾經提及過的「腸腦軸」(gut-brain axis, GBA)。

 

大腦與腸道通過「腦腸軸」緊密地聯系着。神經學家在科學報告中指出愛情能夠驅動大腦內部島葉(the medial insula),從而刺激我們的第二個大腦——腸神經系統(enteric nervous system,ENS):即主要管理胃排空和營養吸收的神經系統。所以「胃裏的蝴蝶」可以說是腸道的「攻擊或逃避」(fight-or-flight)應激反應。反之,腸道亦能通過「腦腸軸」影響大腦的功能。無論是動物還是人體實驗均已表明,腸道菌羣能夠一定程度地調節或改變大腦的情緒和認知功能。益生菌能夠改善腸道健康,那麼它是否也能通過「腦腸軸」對大腦健康有積極影響呢?近期的研究進一步明確了益生菌調節大腦健康的重要功能:經過四周的口服益生菌補充,健康實驗者的腸道菌羣被良性改變,而情緒認知機制則得到了改善,體現在他們擁有更好的情緒管理能力,能提高與情緒相關的認知和記憶功能,更能抵御情緒管理障礙、從而提升幸福感。簡而言之,益生菌不僅能帶給人健康腸道,還能讓人心情愉快。
